A Podcast Interview with Gabe Nathan @ OC87 Recovery Diaries
I’m honored to share a recent conversation I had with Gabriel Nathan of OC87 Recovery Diaries, where we explored the intersection of trauma, creativity, and healing.
In this podcast, I speak about how creative expression — through writing, psychodrama, and performance — can serve as a profound pathway to recovery. We discuss what readiness for trauma work looks like, the importance of having a stable witness, and how to pace the process when somatic memory surfaces faster than one’s defenses can manage.
We also take an honest look at the fragmented architecture of mental health care, including the barriers that survivors and caregivers face in navigating a system marked by inconsistency and inaccessibility. I share how candid guidance from NAMI helped me balance compassion with realism in both caregiving and clinical practice.
This conversation is deeply personal yet hopeful — reflecting on my journey of recovery, the grounding found in mutual love and understanding, and the ongoing practice of self-regulation and presence.
